Delicious raw honey, just as Mother Nature intended
Welcome to Whitwell Honey & Bees
We are "Whitwell Honey and Bees", a husband and wife beekeeping team located in the village of Whitwell in Derbyshire. We have farmed bees locally for 30 years and we are dedicated to supplying quality raw honey and gentle hard working nucleus bee colonies.

Our Commitment to Quality

As biologists we have a natural interest in all living things, but we find bees to be especially fascinating creatures. Although we have decades of experience between us we are still constantly learning about their behaviour and interactions with other creatures and their environment.
We are passionate about beekeeping and have helped many new local beekeepers begin their journey of discovery, and made many good friends on the way. We are happy to provide ongoing support or if you wish to just get a taste of what beekeeping is like you are welcome to join Carol when she inspects one of our apiaries.
We have a "Whitwell Honey and Bees" Facebook page which we constantly update with pictures and videos of what we are up to throughout the year. Please follow us and track what a beekeepers work involves. https://www.facebook.com/share/1BZvN94n2G/

We provide our customers with top quality honey and bees at very affordable prices.
We use recycled materials to build our own hives and sterilise and re-use our jars so our customers do not have to pay the extorionate prices other outlets charge. We give 25p back on returned 1lb jars.

We sell a variety of honey types:
Oil Seed Rape
Lime Tree (native Linden not citrus)
Field Bean
Mixed Spring blossom
Mixed Summer blossom
Moorland (mostly heather)
Prior to jarring the only processing our honey undergoes is coarse filtering just to remove large pieces of wax. We also sell cut comb priced by weight.

Medium 227g/1/2lb £4
Small 150g / 1/3lb £3

We can provide 4/5/6 frame Langstroth, National and 14x12 nucs ..... price depends upon how many frames you want.

We don't require a deposit we work on trust. Contact us for further details.

Swarm collection service
We are happy to collect swarms free of charge and as a thankyou from the bees will give you a jar of honey as a reward. Swarms unless collected by a beekeeper often end up in chimneys or roofspaces and it can be very expensive to have them removed later. Far better to get them taken away asap.
Swarms can settle as in the photograph for several days whilst scout bees look for a new home. We like a photograph as confirmation so we are not called out for a bumble bee nest. In their swarm state honeybees are usually very placid and safe to approach.
We are members of the British Beekeeping Association and registered with them as local swarm collectors. Click on the link below and enter your postcode and it will direct you to your nearest BBKA approved swarm collector who will have indemnity cover for the service.

A small swarm that I collected from a business at Barlborough a while ago. Once quarantined and fed up this virgin queens swarm went on to produce a strong and productive colony with lovely temperament. She must have found some very good drones to mate with.
